While shopping for Father’s Day today, I was inspired to share “The Art of Shaving” story. I’ve always thought it was so glamorous to see a man’s shaving set on his vanity. Who knows, perhaps it’s because my favorite movies are the old wholesome classics, where the ladies wore gloves and gowns and the men wore tuxedos! Whenever there was a shot of the man’s “dressing area” you always saw an ivory handled shaving brush hanging next to an ivory handled razor…
The best-selling men’s brand in high-end department stores today is “The Art of Shaving” and they make the loveliest shaving sets to go along with their lovely shaving products. Myriam Zaoui and Eric Malka opened their first store in NYC in 1996 after Myriam, with a background in Eastern medicine and Aromatherapy, created a pre-shave potion from botanical ingredients and pure essential oils for Eric’s sensitive skin. The New York Times devoted a full page story to The Art of Shaving six months later and with Eric’s business background, they parlayed the booming retail business into a book, 66 nationwide locations and a success story for generations to come.
